Denouncing intensive farming is not enough. How can we take concrete action to overcome this unsustainable system for animals, human health, and the ecosystem?

If you want to discuss this, join us at Stop Funding Intensive Farming! – A people Assembly on Common Agricultural Policy and beyondThe assembly will take place on October 23 at 5pm (CET), both online, on Zoom platform, and in person  in Luxemburg, 10A rue du puits L-2355.

When the investigative documentary, Food For Profit, was released a year ago, you and more than 10,000 other European citizens signed a petition to stop Common Agricultural Policy (CAP) subsidies to the intensive farming industry.

However, the European Parliament’s Petitions Committee never even considered our request and simply closed the petition, claiming the EU is already taking action to improve farming sustainability. Our demands were never heard, nor answered:

  • Establish a legal definition of intensive farming
  • Exclude intensive farms from European public funding.

It is imperative that we don’t back down in the face of the European Parliament’s negligence! We must find new ways to be heard—and we want to do it together with you.

At the People’s Assembly, experts will first introduce different aspects of the intensive farming issues. Following that, we will split into virtual breakout rooms to discuss each topic in detail and build concrete proposals.

This Assembly’s topics will include:

  • CAP 2027: What reforms are possible for a fairer, more sustainable Common Agricultural Policy without subsidies for intensive farming?
  • Territories: What political, legal, and journalistic actions can stop the creation of new intensive farms at the local level? What methods can we learn from one case to another across Europe?
  • Legal actions: Is it possible to take a case to the European Court of Justice to stop EU funding for meat-based product advertising? What other legal initiatives can be pursued?
  • Financialization of our food: How do mega-profits, the concentration of economic power, and speculative investment shape our food system? What are the human rights implications of this process, and what role does Luxembourg and its financial center play? What proposals can be developed to counter these dynamics and redirect financial flows toward sustainable farming?

Further details about the program schedule and speakers will be released soon.
